How to Remove a Mugshot from Google

Mugshot & Arrest Record

A mugshot should not be the first thing people see when they Google your name.

Mugshot sites are built to rank, spread, and pressure people into paying. We look at what is showing up, where it is hosted, and what can realistically be removed, suppressed, or buried.

The real problem

Mugshot sites are not news. They are reputation traps.

They are built to rank

Mugshot pages often use names, locations, charges, and arrest details in ways that make them show up quickly in search.

They are built to spread

One mugshot can appear across multiple sites, mirrors, image results, and scraped databases.

They are built to pressure you

Many sites profit from panic. Paying one site often does not solve the larger search problem.

Where it usually lives

The most common mugshot and booking-photo aggregator sites.

Mugshots.com
BustedNewspaper
Arrests.org
JailBase
InmateAid
County Sheriff Booking Logs
Local News Blotter Pages
Background Check Services

A single booking photo often appears on several of these at once, which is why removing one copy rarely solves the full search problem. Background check services like the ones employers use can also surface the same record separately from Google.

Do not rush to pay a mugshot site.

Paying one site may not remove the image everywhere. It may not remove the result from Google. And in some cases, it can signal that you are willing to pay, which makes the problem worse.

One payment rarely fixes every copy
Google may keep showing cached or mirrored results
The better move is to review the whole search result first
The strategy

Real mugshot cleanup is bigger than one website.

01

Map the damage

We identify every mugshot page, image result, duplicate listing, scraper site, and search term connected to the issue.

02

Find removal opportunities

We review which sites may allow removal, which may require legal or documentation-based requests, and which are unlikely to cooperate.

03

Suppress what cannot be removed

When removal is not realistic, we build and strengthen better assets that can outrank the mugshot result.

04

Protect the first page

We track movement over time and keep building pressure until the search results begin reflecting the right picture.

Two paths

Removal vs. suppression

Removal

Best when

The site allows takedowns, the record was expunged or sealed, the page violates rules, or there is a legal basis.

Goal

Get the page or image taken down at the source.

Suppression

Best when

The site refuses to remove it, the mugshot has spread, or the domain is too strong.

Goal

Build stronger, cleaner results that push the damaging result down.

Dropped, dismissed, or sealed

Even when the case is over, the internet may not update itself.

A mugshot can keep showing up even after charges were dropped, dismissed, sealed, or expunged. Search engines do not automatically understand the full legal context. That is why the cleanup strategy has to focus on both the source pages and the search results people actually see. For the specifics on what expungement does and does not do to your Google results, see does expungement remove it from Google.

Find out what can realistically be done before you pay anyone.

Send us the mugshot link, your name, and what shows up in Google. We will review the situation privately and show you the real options.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I pay the mugshot website to take it down?

Not without us looking at it first. Some of these sites operate in a legal gray area and paying can actually confirm you are worth targeting again later. There are cleaner paths, including legal notices and search suppression, that do not put money directly in the pocket of the site that put you there.

Can my mugshot actually be removed from Google?

Sometimes directly, sometimes not, and the honest answer depends on which site is hosting it and whether your case was dismissed, expunged, or resolved. Some mugshot sites have legitimate removal processes. Others exist specifically to charge you money, and paying them does not always mean the photo stays down. We will tell you which kind of site you are dealing with before you send anyone a dollar.

My charges were dropped or my record was expunged. Why is the mugshot still online?

Because the mugshot site does not automatically know your case changed, and even if you tell them, they are not always required to remove it. A dropped case or an expungement is meaningful leverage in certain removal requests, and we use it. But it is not the automatic fix most people expect it to be.

Can a mugshot be suppressed even if it cannot be removed?

Yes, and for many cases this is the realistic path. If the photo cannot come down, we build and rank stronger content so it stops being the first thing someone sees when they search your name. The photo does not have to disappear to stop defining you.

Can you get my mugshot removed from Google Images specifically?

Google Images is a separate problem from regular search results and we work both. Google has its own removal process for certain types of content in image search, and where your photo qualifies, we pursue it. Where it does not, we build strong, current, positive images associated with your name until the mugshot falls out of the top results.

What if there are multiple mugshot sites with my photo?

That is the norm. When a photo appears on one of these sites it almost always appears on several. We look at the full picture and build a strategy around all of the appearances, not just the one you found.

How fast does this move if I have a background check or job offer coming?

Tell us your timeline up front. If you have an interview or a background check coming, that changes what we prioritize first. We cannot promise a specific date, but we will tell you what is realistic once we know what we are working with and what is on the clock.

Which mugshot and booking-photo sites are most common?

Sites like Mugshots.com, BustedNewspaper, Arrests.org, JailBase, and InmateAid are among the most frequently seen, along with individual county sheriff booking logs and local news blotter pages. Many cases involve more than one of these at once.

Does expungement guarantee my mugshot will disappear from Google?

No. Expungement changes the legal record, but it does not automatically remove copies that mugshot sites, news outlets, or data brokers have already published and indexed. Expungement can be useful leverage in a removal request, but the search cleanup itself is a separate, additional step. See does expungement remove it from Google for the full picture.

You do not have to let one image define the search results around your name.

The first step is private, free, and honest. Send us what is showing up, and we will show you the realistic path forward.
